Congrats to State Champ

Congratulations to Richard Mack!  He became North DeSoto's second LHSAA State Champion in as many years.  Richard fought his way through the Division II 138 lb. bracket to meet the defending state champ in the finals.  Richard battled to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation.  He then earned a takedown in the Sudden Victory Overtime to secure the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!  The win pushed his season record to 42-13 for the Sophomore.  The future is bright for this young man.

Wrestling News

The Griffins finished with another Top 10 place in the State Tournament.  All-State Wrestlers include Richard Mack (Champion), Cameron Davis, Hunter Brooks and John Michael Cristler.

The Griffins finished the 2018-19 season on a strong note.  The team claimed the District Title for the second straight year by defeating the Benton Tigers for the first time all season.  The team had a strong showing at the North LA Regional tournament finishing 4th as a team.  Individual Regional placers include: Champions Hunter Brooks, Tyler Beaird and Hayden Seaton.  2nd Place Richard Mack, Cameron Davis, Kydre Clark, and JT Thomas.  #rd Place Dylan Olivier and John Michael Christer.

The Griffins travelled to Live Oak H.S. in Watson, LA for the first ever LHSCA Div II Duals Championships.  North DeSoto went 3-2 on the day earning a 7th place finish.  The morning opened up with a close 36-33 win over the Sam Houston Broncos.  Then, the Griffs handled the Live Oak B-team to start the day 2-0.  The eventually runner-up, Teurlings Catholic, handed the Griffins their first loss to end pool play.  In the semi-finals of our bracket, North DeSoto lost a nail biter to Belle Chasse.  The Griffins then rebounded to capture 7th place by overpowering Teurlings B-team.

North DeSoto wrestling traveled to McAlester, OK to compete against some tough competition from Southeastern Oklahoma.  The guys battled through two tough days of competition to earn a 7th place team finish.  Josh Sarpy claimed the championship on the 106 lb. weight class.  Richard Mack and John Michael Cristler worked their way to finals but both came up just short and claimed silver medals.  Andrew Gonzales grabbed third place with his only loss of the weekend coming at the hands of the eventual champion.

The Griffins finished in 4th place at the Lone Survivor Championships hosted by Parkway High School.  North DeSoto finished behind tournament champions Teurlings Catholic, Parkway and Airline.  Josh Sarpy, John Michael Cristler and Hunter Brooks all earned gold medals and Brooks picked up an Outstanding Wrestler trophy for the middle weight classes.  Richard Mack finished 2nd in a hard fought finals match.  Cameron Davis grabbed a 5th place finish, while Cameron Wells placed 6th.  Isiah Cates, Andrew Gonzales and Dylan Olivier all won their consolation brackets and placed 9th.  The Griffins travel to McAlester, OK this week to face some stiff competition from the Midwest!

The Griffins split another set of Duals on Tuesday Dec. 12.  Losing to Airline and then turning around to beat Huntington.  Next Tuesday (12/19), the team travels to Parkway to take on the Panthers and the Byrd Yellow Jackets.

Saturday, Dec. 9 was a good day to be a Griffin.  We traveled to Wylie East HS in Wylie, TX to take on some of the Dallas area's best wrestling teams.  The Griffins had a fine showing with a champion (Josh Sarpy), a runner-up (John Michael Cristler) and multiple 4th place finishers (Richard Mack, Hunter Brooks, Dylan Olivier).  The Griffins scored 81.5 points to finish 7th but were only 18.5 points out of 3rd place.  JT Thomas took home silver in the JV Tournament at Wylie (Not too bad for his first wrestling matches ever!).

The Griffins split a pair of matches in our first home meet of the season.  The Tigers from Benton narrowly defeated the Griffins by the score of 39-36.  The Griffins then bounced back to defeat the Bossier Bearkats 53-24.  Winners from the Griffins included Josh Sarpy, Richard Mack, John Michael Cristler, Andrew Gonzales, Hunter Brooks, Dylan Olivier, Hayden Seaton and Cameron Wells.

The 2017-18 Season has kicked off with a strong start.  The team traveled to the Broken Arrow Open in Owassa, OK on Nov. 11 and had a good showing against some top ranked competitors from the midwest.  Congrats to Hunter Brooks for going 5-1 on the day and grabbing the 3rd place medal.

The Griffins traveled to Rockwall High School in Texas on Nov. 18th.  Josh Sarpy won the 106 lb. Division and John Michael Cristler grabbed the gold in the 152 lb. weight class.  Richard Mack placed 3rd and Hunter Brooks finished 4th.  Our next tournament is in Wylie, TX on Dec. 9th.

To create...

an inspiring atmosphere for young men, our school, and our community, through the avenue of a top flight wrestling program that produces young men of character and integrity who exhibit the CONFIDENCEDEDICATION, and SELF-RELIANCE to persevere through any of life’s CHALLENGES.

There is no straight line to success.  The road to the top is a series of switch-backs, zigs and zags.  Often times the road is racked with boulders you must move out of the way – as well as pebbles that get in your shoes.  Sometimes there will be blood, bruising, breaks, and blisters.  Yet to the person who is fully on purpose, all the pain is pleasurable.  Nothing is for naught; everything is for something.  All encounters and experiences are leading the person with the goal to the top.
